What you may not know is how personally I have been touched by this disease.
On November 14th 23 years ago my sweet momma lost her battle with breast cancer.
The last year of her life she stayed with us at our house.
Knowing she was fighting this awful disease was both a curse and a blessing.
The curse part is obvious... and included her pain and suffering.
The blessing part...
I was able to have the time to tell her how much she meant to me.
She was able to see and spend time everyday with my daughter who was just a toddler.
I was honored to care for her when she most needed me.
My Momma was the most amazing person ever.
She overcame so much in her 56 years of life...
Her parents were both mean alcoholics who left her orphaned when she was a young child.
She was separated from her 2 siblings when she was placed in an orphanage yet remained close to them throughout her life.
She faced and overcame abuse at the hands of those people in the orphanage whose job it was to care for her.
She was widowed in her 20s when she was pregnant with her 5th child.
My mother was ALWAYS there for me and my 7 siblings and I am so happy I was able to be there for her when she needed me most.
If my Momma was here today I would be giving this card to her...
Momma this post is dedicated to you.
I love you with all my heart and miss you daily.
My HOPE is that I can spend my life being just half the person you were.

What a beautiful post! I am sure your Mom was right there with you as you were writing it :) My Grandma is currently battling breast cancer as well - for the 2nd time. It is never an easy thing to watch someone go through. I was in the same position as you with my Grandpa when he was sick with Lung Cancer. We cared for him daily for the 3 months he had left. You are right about one thing - it is a curse and a blessing. I am so grateful to have been able to share that time with him. I am sorry for your loss! Your card is so pretty! Thank you so much for playing along with us at Loves Rubberstamps this week! We hope to see you play along with us again soon!

ReplyDeleteWow D~. Thank you for sharing something so incredibly personal. I watched my momma (that's what I call her too) battle vaginal cancer but we were extremely lucky and thirteen years later she is still with us. I can't imagine the pain that you have gone through in your loss. This card is a beautiful tribute to her and it is obvious why it is one of your favourites from the past year.
ReplyDeleteWhile I am here I'd also like to thank you for not only linking up your card to my World Card Making Day Celebration but also to our current challenge over at the Path of Positivity.
I hope that you always have the courage and strength to face any battles that come your way just like your momma did throughout her difficult life. She truly was a beacon for strength.
Regards,
Lisa
