Sympathy Card ~ A Little Vellum

OMGoodness I can't believe it has been so long since I shared anything crafty.
Have you ever had those days when you get out your crafting goodies
to play but then you just sit there and stare at them?
I have had one of those weeks. yikes.

I've been trying to work with vellum but find it quite challenging.
I really need to get some adhesive that
works with out showing through the vellum.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

First I die cut the doily with vellum.
Next I added and embossed panel.
I stamped the flower in light blue but next time I'll use a darker ink.
Then I used it's coordinating die to cut it out.
I added the sentiment to the flower center.
To add a little sparkle I used my Wink of Stella glitter brush.
To finish off my card I added rhinestones to the corners.

*Card base 4.25 x 5.5 in.
*Flower and sentiment from the Joyful Blooms stamp set from Verve Stamps.
*Flower cut using the Joyful Blooms die set from Verve Stamps.
*Vellum doily cut using the Quickutz Dainty Doily die from Lifestyle Crafts.
*Embossed using the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder from Provo Craft.
*Rich Cocoa and Summer Sky stamp pads from Memento.
*Wink of Stella glitter brush from Zig Memory Systems.
*Rhinestones from my stash.

May your day always be filled with love.

  1. Darling card, wonderful design and colors. Vellum can be a real challenge to adhere, on a piece as big as the doily is I would only apply adhesive to the parts of the doily that you won't see. I have been trying to keep my vellum pieces small enough to run through one of my Xyron sticker makers, if there is adhesive applied evenly to the entire piece you can't see it. So, I need to get a bigger sticker maker. LOLOL

  2. Beautiful sympathy card D! I love vellum too but it can be challenging to work with when it comes to adhesive not showing through it. I don't think there is any one adhesive that won't show through. You just have to get creative on putting embellishments to hide the adhesive. It also won't show if you put the adhesive all over the vellum piece using a Xyron machine. That's about the only tips I have and yes, I have sat down and just stared at my crafty stuff not doing a thing! lol Hugs, Brenda

  4. This is a very gorgeous sympathy card! Love working with vellum, makes a project so classy I think... and what i normally do if i don't use my xryon machines for the vellum is i use the 3M's spray adhesive in a can.... works great! But love this card my friend!

  5. Very pretty card. I love vellum but not always easy to use. Years ago (90's) I bought some tape from QVC called Wacky Tape. It was made specifically for vellum. Restickable and doesn't show through. I still have some because I only use it when the vellum isn't covered. Xyron covers it all so it works. Last week I read a blog that said that TomBow Extreme permanent runner didn't show. I bought some but I don't like it. It's a glue runner and not a dot runner. It doesn't apply evenly and pulls and glops up so I see it. In recent years I have seen Wacky Tac in one of the craft stores.( Michaels, JoAnn's or Hobby Lobby)

  6. Your card is very pretty!! I love the vellum doily in the background!! Tombow makes a vellum adhesive that works wonderfully! I am out right now, & need to reorder. But I use glue dots to adhere vellum a lot too, and just try to place them in areas that I can cover up, etc...with something else!!

  7. Lovely vellum doily. It can be tricky to hid the adhesive so adding a button or embellishment can be a way to hide the glue underneath, or layer it like you did and glue the side that is covered up. Looks like others have given some good tips too :) Thanks for joining us for this month's Diva Dare.

  10. Such a wonderful card! Love the vellum. Check out Diana's latest post at DL.ART, she is recommending Tombow - as she is also trying out for the 2015 design team. http://dianamlarson.blogspot.ca/2014/11/tombow-2015-design-team-my-final-project.html

  11. Great addition of the vellum here...The CAS design is perfect. So delighted you joined us at our last week's Challenge and hope you join us again for the start of another Challenge today. Leaving you with some encouragement from Psalm 62:5-6 which says, "Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken." Hugs and blessing always!
